WHAT IS AN ENROLLED AGENT?
Enrolled Agents are professional tax practitioners, who are enrolled to represent taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service and can assist you in tax planning, preparation, and representation. Enrolled Agents are the only tax professionals tested by the IRS on their knowledge of tax law and regulations, and adhere to a Code of Ethics and professional conduct established by the U.S. Treasury Department.
Enrolled Agents have been around for well over a hundred years. Enrollment was established in 1884 by the U.S. government to regulate agents who represented citizens with claims for Civil War losses. Today, the nearly 4000 members of the California Society of Enrolled Agents, prepare more than 2 million tax returns each year!
